If you’ve been anywhere near BookTok lately, you’ll know Alice Feeney has a new one out, and obviously I could not resist. My Husband’s Wife landed on my TBR the second I heard the premise, and I am officially adding it to my “read in record time” pile.

The Premise (No Spoilers)

Eden Fox is an artist on the edge of her big career break. She heads out for a run before her first exhibition, comes back to her home, Spyglass, and… nothing is as it should be. Her key doesn’t work. A woman who looks eerily like her answers the door. And her husband insists that she’s the impostor.

One house. One husband. Two women. Someone is lying, and figuring out who kept me turning pages way past when I should’ve put my phone down and gone to sleep.

What Worked For Me

Can we talk about that opening? I was hooked from literally page one. This is the kind of book you pick up “just to read a chapter” and suddenly it’s 1am and you’ve made questionable decisions about your sleep schedule. The concept is genuinely so clever, and Feeney knows exactly how to plant a hook and reel you in chapter after chapter. I was constantly reaching for it, desperate to know what was actually going on with these two women.

Where It Lost Me

Here’s my honest, slightly cheeky take: the ending tried to do a lot. And I mean a lot. What started as a beautifully tight, unsettling premise turned into a bit of a tangle by the final act. I love a twist as much as the next thriller girlie, but there’s a point where “jaw-dropping” tips into “wait, hang on, go back a page.” For me, this one tipped just slightly over that line. The concept absolutely deserved a five-star ending. I just don’t think it quite stuck the landing.

Final Verdict

3.5 stars from me. If you love Feeney for her twists, you will not be disappointed in quantity — just maybe pace yourself for the final third. It’s a brilliant, page-turning concept that I’d still recommend, especially if you loved His & Hers or Daisy Darker. Just go in ready for a slightly bumpier finish than the start promises.
